"Many of these cuts were self-released by the band in 2018, and distributed primarily at their gigs, but Ropeadope is doing the Lord's work in providing the material's first official release ... This record serves as "Actual Proof" that the sources behind jazz fusion's fount still have a lot to say"
AllMusic, 2022
"Though it was very briefly self-released in 2018, the Ropeadope release of Speakers in the House marks the first new Headhunters material since 2011's star-studded Platinum ... Unlike the earlier record, Speakers in the House doesn't showcase hip-hop, but offers an ambitious musical palette centered in NOLA jazz-funk, post-bop, contemporary jazz, and neo-soul. The trio added keyboardist Stephen Gordon and bassist Reggie Washington as new members ... 'Speakers in the House' is remarkably masterful, fresh-sounding, and creatively restless. For over nearly 50 years, Headhunters have continually reinvented themselves. This is no exception"

"The band continues to be led and produced by its two Herbie Hancock-era members, percussionist Bill Summers and drummer Mike Clark, who together have kept the outfit intermittently active since Hancock moved on to other things in the mid 1970s ... With Summers and Clark at the helm, Headhunters has been through several personnel changes. The constants have been plugged-in keyboards and Clark's backbeat-anchored drums ... With no other horn players present this time round, Harrison is a prominent soloist. New keyboardist Stephen Gordon is no Herbie Hancock but he brings the funk, and on "Over The Bar," the most 'Head Hunters'-esque track, his Clavinet does its timewarp thing with conviction. Guest kora player Fode Sissoko brings to mind Hancock's work with Foday Musa Suso in the 1980s. The band is tight, the sound is big and the overall effect is unashamed good fun"
