" ... there's little doubt he hasn't received his due for his status as one of the primary architects of the postwar harp style. Although capable of pyrotechnics when necessary, he usually preferred a more subtle approach, mining deep emotion and musical riches with his genius for tone ... his singing was his weakest asset. His harp work, though, is impeccable throughout; both as a front man and paired with such stalwarts as Willie Nix, Tampa Red, Joe Hill Louis (...), Johnny Shines, Arbee Stidham, Sunnyland Slim, and Jimmy Rogers (...), he shines radiantly, unleashing an armamentarium of timbral shadings and tonal dexterity that seems only to become more expressive, and more daunting, with every listen ... this is a good entre into the rich musical world of Big Walter Horton"
