Aarhus Public Libraries
Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark and has 295,000 inhabitants. Aarhus Public Libraries, as a unit, consists of a main library and 18 district and branch libraries. The libraries have a circulation of more than 5.3 million issues and 2.1 million visits per year. In addition to providing ‘traditional services’, Aarhus Public Libraries functions as county library for the County of Aarhus, which consists of 26 municipalities with a total of approximately 640,000 inhabitants. For the libraries of the county, Aarhus Public Libraries as county library performs tasks which comprise advice and guidance, supplement of materials, information service, co-ordination of library services and competence development. Four yearly meetings are arranged for the library manages of the county. According to requirement, meetings are arranged several times a year for librarians specializing in children, immigrants or music. The purpose of these meetings is a general exchange of experiences. Bog´art, a news magazine for the libraries of the county, is published five times a year. A part of the site www.aakb.dk contains information, news, minutes, discussion forums etc. for all Aarhus County libraries. Read more about the activities in the annual report 2007:
